Through 122 local departments of social services and close to 50 domestic violence prevention service providers, our programs provide family-focused, family-based, preventive, and protective services to citizens throughout the Commonwealth.  The central office, located in Richmond, develops policies, procedures, regulations, and standard for the Adult Services Program.  The Adult Services Program is state supervised and locally administered.  Adult Services staff in the five regional offices is responsible for monitoring and providing technical assistance to the local departments of social services.  The local department of social services is the setting for direct client contact.  Local agency staff determine eligibility for participation in service and assistance programs, authorize payments to clients and vendors for services, approve providers, and provide direct services to adults 60 years of age and older or adults 18 years of age and older who have a disability.
